What is Naturopathy?

Naturopathy is a holistic approach to wellness. Naturopathy treats each person as an individual and supports the whole person to live a healthy lifestyle. The foundations of naturopathy are based on the importance of a healthy diet, clean fresh water, sunlight, exercise and stress management.
— Better Health Victoria

Naturopathy aims to educate the person to look after their own health and the health of their family, minimising symptoms of any illness, supporting the body’s capacity to heal, and balancing the body so that illness is less likely to occur in the future.

Naturopathic principles are based on treating each person as an individual and treating the whole person, not just the affected area.

Naturopathy encompasses a variety of treatment methods including:

  • Herbal Medicine and Nutritional Medicine to help prevent and treat various illnesses

  • Dietary and Nutritional advice for restoration of balance, detoxification and prevention of disease

  • Lifestyle advice to promote well-being and reduce stress

Naturopaths Commonly see patients for:

  • Gut and stomach issues

  • Infertility

  • Fatigue and low energy

  • Anxiety and Depression

  • Stress

  • Hormonal imbalances

Naturopathy & Nutrition - Frequently Asked Questions

What SHOULD I expect when I visit a Naturopath?

Andrea and Kirsty’s approach to Naturopathy and Nutrition is very evidence based (scientific) and they follows an integrative medicine approach to practice. Therefore both Kirsty and Andrea will take a very thorough case history at your initial appointment, and it is possible that they will send you for some blood, stool, saliva, DNA or urine testing, depending on your symptoms. Some of these tests can be done by your GP and are covered by Medicare, however there are a number of tests that are not able to be covered by Medicare. Our practitioners can send you directly for these tests without you seeing your GP, however you will have to pay the pathology collection centre for these yourself.

It is likely that Andrea and Kirsty will prescribe you some nutritional/dietary changes at your first visit. Please be open to making such changes, as the more willing you are to make changes, the better outcome you will have from treatment. It is also likely that they will prescribe you some herbs and/or supplements. By taking a comprehensive history and doing pathology testing, our naturopaths aim to only give you supplements that are really specific to your symptoms and your case. They will aim to give you no more than 3-4 supplements at any one time.

How long will MY treatment take?

We offer a variety of treatment sessions to accommodate clients wishing to see our naturopaths as well as for those clients wishing to see Andrea for both Osteopathy and Nutrition. See our pricing page for more information.

Appointment Availability

Our Naturopaths are available for Naturopathy & Nutrition appointments Tuesday to Saturday.

What to bring

Andrea and Kirsty will send you the following forms to fill out prior to your visit. You are also welcome to download them from the links below.

If possible, please return these to naturopath@southsideclinic.com.au at least 5 days before your initial visit. If this is not possible, please bring them filled out on the day. The forms take quite a while to fill out, so please do this prior to your appointment time.

Pathology Results

If you have had any blood, urine, stool, DNA or saliva testing done in the previous 6 months please bring the results with your to your appointment or ideally please email them to naturopath@southsideclinic.com.au 5 days prior to your appointment so your practitioner can review them.

If you haven’t been to the GP for a while, it can be useful to go 2-3 weeks prior to your Naturopathy/Nutrition visit and ask for a general health screening blood test. Most GP’s will be happy to do this for you once per year. You could ask for:
